More exploration in the sketchbook; layering, shapes, linework and palettes without the pressure to make a 'finished' piece. I have uploaded this as a gallery, click on to view the images in a larger format.
I am very happy to be embarking on a 3 month online painting course with Fiona Godfrey this January. Painting practice is ongoing and learning from a great teacher is an important part of being an artist.
Two galleries of work for my latest blog, click on them to view in a larger format. I have chosen simple white frames for the 2 pieces in the upper gallery, the frames set the paintings off perfectly and are a great finishing touch, they were very well received Christmas presents.
New work for the end of 2020! I have uploaded 8 new pieces of work to my Latest Work gallery. These pieces explore line within the context of abstract painting. I have used different tools and media in my line making endeavours to produce 2 series of 4 paintings, each 20 x 20 cm. All work on paper is priced at £50 each, please contact me for further details and to make a purchase.
I have been continuing with my sketchbook practice recently and making more small works on paper. I am continuing to explore line, shape & mark making, pushing these elements & paint in new directions without having the pressure in reaching a compositional conclusion.
The work above is displayed in a gallery so click on to enjoy in a larger format.
I am currently trying out new approaches to work. Part of this is to eliminate the need to produce a 'finished work;' hard to do. I am working on sheets of primed paper 8 x 10 inches in portrait & landscape orientation, cut from a roll. I am also thinking of ways I could bind the sheets together to form a sketchbook, because this is the way I am working. Generating new ideas and hopefully some leads that can develop into work in the future.
I am working in groups of 3.
I have spent some time recently realigning my website to accommodate my work for your perusal. Check out my new 'Latest Gallery,' this will be updated regularly. Previous work will be in my canvas and paper galleries, now divided into 'papers' to enhance your viewing experience. Do take a look, I would love to hear your comments. Please contact me through the contacts page if you would like to make a purchase. Works on paper are £50.00.
For most of this year, from February, my work has taken a significant new direction. With the lockdown and exhibition opportunities and workshops cancelled, I have devoted my time to developing my approach to my work.
The body of work I have completed over the last few months is on paper and I have been working in multiples of 4. I have experimented with intuitive and responsive strategies to mark making both in paint and other media.
I have updated my paper gallery where most of my recent work is currently. Do take a look, I would love to receive your comments.
I am offering my work on paper for sale under the artistsupportpledge; https://artistsupportpledge.com/ an excellent initiative to support artists during the pandemic and beyond. Each piece is £50.00, please contact me for further details and to make a purchase.
My lovely cousin, photographer Tim Gander has given me the guest gallery spot on his website. He has photographed 12 of my paintings and each is available as fine art prints in 3 sizes, 10 x 8" (£40.00): 12 x 16" (£90.00) and 16 x 20" (£120.00). It is easy to get 'off the peg' frames from major retails to fit these sizes of print. Check out Tim's gallery at https://www.takeagander.co.uk/-/galleries/guest-artist
I am continuing my small works on paper series. This is a great time for me to explore techniques, experiment with new ideas and push my work further. Many new images have been added to my paper gallery, and are priced from £35.00 upwards. Contact me via the contacts page for more info or to make a purchase (or 2).
I have been working on a series of organic abstract paintings, experimenting with a responsive rather than a planned approach to working. these are a departure from my more geometric work and have been an enjoyable to work on. More work can be seen in my paper gallery and these works are priced from £35.00 to £50.00. Please contact me via my contact page for further details.
